Our Methods
Food
All of our dogs are fed dog food from Eagle Pack. We have found that this natural, holistic dog food is one of the best out there. Due to the quality ingredients our dogs are healthier, which in turn keeps the vet bills down. I require the puppies to be fed Eagle Pack. It is made from human grade ingredients and has the vitamins necessary for the growth of the puppy. There is also Glucosamine and Beta Carotene in it to control the structural growth of the puppy.
Other foods are given out for various reasons. When one of our Goldens is expecting, I put her on a high protein diet of boiled chicken with natural broth and another meat. I will also offer cottage cheese or yogurt to her if she will accept it. After the birth of the puppies, the mother will also be fed chicken broth, vitamins, and calcium to help replenish her nutrient levels.
Puppy Timeline
All of our litters are born in our indoor kennel. This is done so that the puppies will not be exposed to the harsh summer heat or winter cold that makes up the everyday weather of the Mojave Desert. It also allows us to monitor the puppies for any possible health problems or socialization issues. To ensure better health for the puppies, the kennel is cleaned twice daily.
When the puppies are 4 weeks old, they are weaned and feed baby rice cereal for a few days. Eagle Pack Large Breed Puppy Food is slowly added in until they are only eating the puppy food. Worming will be done at 3, 5, 7, and 9 weeks of age. They also start shots when they are 6 1/2 weeks old starting with the Parvo vaccination. The shots continue at 9, 12, and 15 weeks. As well we take all the puppies to our vet at 7 weeks to be checked out for general health purposes.
At 8 weeks old the puppies are ready to go home to their new family. All the puppies will go home with a 2-year health guarantee on their hips, heart, and eyes. They will have a puppy package that consists of:
